Order Confirmation
What if a customer never replies to the confirmation message?
Direct answer
Follow up twice, then hold the order. Send one reminder a few hours after the first message and one the next day stating the order will be paused. If there is still no answer, do not ship it. Silent orders refuse at the door far more often than confirmed ones, and holding them costs you nothing.
The follow-up ladder
- A few hours later: a gentle nudge. "Still want us to send your order? Reply YES and it ships today."
- Next day: a clear consequence. "We will hold your order until we hear from you."
- After that: the order is paused, not shipped. You can archive it after a few days or try one final channel (an SMS or a call) for high-value orders.
Why silence is a signal
A customer who wants the order answers a one-word question. Sustained silence usually means a changed mind, a fake number, or a phone that the courier will not reach either. Shipping into that silence is how RTO happens: you pay round-trip freight to discover what two free messages could have told you.
Keep the door open
Holding is not punishing the customer. If they reply a day later, confirm and ship immediately, no friction. Automation makes this ladder consistent: ReplAi sends the reminders on schedule, understands late replies whenever they come, and updates the order status in Shopify so your team always knows which orders are safe to ship.
